The village story gathered in one place
The story
The church may have medieval origins, though much of the nave seen today reflects major work in 1804. Its crenellated tower is earlier — probably fifteenth or sixteenth century — and may originally have served a defensive or watch function.
The surrounding interdenominational graveyard preserves centuries of village memory. Its earliest clearly dated legible stone is from 1703, while undated stones may be older.
Today the building is the Carlingford Heritage Centre, interpreting the settlement through themed displays and serving as a starting point for understanding the monuments in their wider landscape.
